The Ryukyu Islands make an excellent field location. Stretching almost 1000 km north to south, from tropical to subtropical waters warmed by the Kuroshio Current, there are over 160 islands in the chain. Combined with their geographic setting between continental shelves and deep-sea trenches, the Ryukyus are an ideal setting for marine science.
