  1. 1.Heron Island, Australia. November 8th-30th 2009. Zoanthid sampling as part of the CReefs project within the Census of Marine Life. MISE participants: James Davis Reimer. Check out the blog! Photo specimen archive here (part 1) and here (2).

  2. 2.Kumejima International Marine Biodiversity Expedition. November 7th-23rd 2009. Large-scale benthos specimen collection effort. MISE participants: Frederic Sinniger, Takuma Fujii.

  3. 3.Green Island, Taiwan. October 31st-November 6th 2009. Zoanthid, sponge, and ascidian sampling with Dr. Yoko Nozawa (Academia Sinica) and Dr. Euichi Hirose (U.Ryukyus). MISE participants: Masami Obuchi, Yuka Irei, Takuma Fujii.

  4. 4.Also: trips to Yakushima Island, Yaeyama Islands, Kagoshima, Ogasawara Islands, Japan Trench, Taiwan, CIMAR, San Jose, Costa Rica.

 

2009

Active field research on a global scale helps us achieve a better understanding of the biodiversity, biogeography, and evolution of our research subjects.

2010

  1. 1.Heron Island, Australia. November 10th-26th. Zoanthid sampling as part of the CReefs project within the Census of Marine Life. MISE participants: James Davis Reimer.

  2. 2.Taiwan-Okinawa summer school, September 4-13. Run by NTU, Academia Sinica and our university, this unique program allowed students and profs to mix and learn about both the ocean and terrestrial ecosystems in Taiwan. JDR.

  3. 3.CReefs Lizard Island August 24-September 13. Our third CReefs trip took us to the northern Great Barrier Reef. JDR, TF.

  4. 4.Asia-Pacific Coral Reef Symposium. June 19-25. Phuket, Thailand. JDR, CA, YI, TF, and MO gave presentations at this large conference. JDR also hosted a workshop on Terpios sponges along with Allen Chen of Academia Sinica. TF won the best student poster prize.

  5. 5.CReefs Ningaloo May 8-June 3. Part of the international Census of Marine Life, our second trip in which we participated took us to western Australian reefs at Ningaloo. See the blog here! CA, YI.

  6. 6.Nansei Islands & Kagoshima. March 3-17. Terpios sponges, Porites coral, zoanthids, and octocorals were groups investigated on this large group trip with MISE members CA, HS, TN, MM, JDR and Dr. Ryuji Asami of the Rising Star Program.

  7. 7.JAMSTEC cruise NT10-02. From Beppu to Sagami Bay, testing the PICASSO ROV with Dr. Dhugal Lindsay.

2011

  1. 1.Osprey Reef, Australia. April 25-May 20th. JAMSTEC/AIMS trip using the submersible PICASSO to look at reef to deep biodiversity. MISE participants: JDR, with Dr. Dhugal Lindsay (JAMSTEC).

  2. 2.Pacific Science Congress, Kuala Lumpar and National University of Singapore. June 13-22nd. Two presentations on zoanthids and symbionts were given by JDR, and work with Dr. Peter Todd at NUS.

  3. 3.University of Hawaii. August 2011 - June 2012. YI will go and study/do research in Dr. Rob Toonen’s lab, with help from Dr. Zac Forsman.

  4. 4.JAMSTEC cruises, September/October 2011. Two cruises with the ROV HyperDolphin at Ishigaki and Kikaijima Islands, more reef to deep biodiversity. MISE participants: TF, MO, KW, HS, EK, JDR, JM.

  5. 5.World Conference on Biodiversity, Scotland. September. JDR

  6. 6.JAMSTEC cruises NT11-18, NT11-21. Sept-Oct. Using the ROV Hyper Dolphin to explore the deep limits of coral reefs in the Ryukyu Archipelago. JDR, MO, KW, TF, HS, JM, EK.

  1. 1.Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) - Mar. 2013. Initial SATREPS program sampling, focusing on zoanthids. JDR, SY, DA.

  2. 2.Hawai’i Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) Paulay Program - Kaneohe, Hawaii - June 2013. Invited speaker to this prestigious program, with lots of anthozoan collaborators. JDR, SY.

  3. 3.Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) - July 2013. Setting up the SATREPS project. JL, JDR.

  4. 4.5th International Chemosynthetic-Based Ecosystem Symposium - Victoria, B.C., Canada - Aug. 2013. Poster presentation on recent findings, field work, museum work. TF, JDR.

  5. 5.East China Sea Workshop - National Taiwan Ocean University - Keelung, Taiwan - Sept.-Oct. 2013. Invited speaker, presenting work on coastal development impacts on biodiversity in Okinawa. JDR


2012

  1. 1.Shimoda Marine Station - January 2012. Several MISE members, including KW, MO, JDR, HS, TF, JM.

  2. 2.HyperDolphin Cruise KT 12-07 - April 2012. Cruise testing AUV submersible PICASSO with Dr. Dhugal Lindsay (JAMSTEC) and team in the Seto Inland Sea (Japan). JDR.

  3. 3.Naturalis Biodiversity Center - May-June 2012. Temminck Fellow for 1 month of work in Leiden, the Netherlands. Collaboration with Dr. Bert Hoeksema and colleagues. Taxonomy and museum collection work. JDR.

  4. 4.South China Sea Biodiversity Workshop at National University of Singapore - August 2012. Workshop to discuss ways to collaborate and cooperate in marine biology in this hotly contested region. Hosted by Dr. Peter Todd and colleagues. JDR.

  5. 5.Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) - August 2012. Start of the SATREPS 5-year project - a collaboration between PICRC and the University of the Ryukyus. Check out our homepage here. JDR.
